Author Interview: Elizabeth Fields (How I Spent My Summer Vacation)

"Elizabeth grew up in a small town in central California called Los Alamos. As a child, she enjoyed putting on full productions for her family in the front yard. She and her friends would write their own plays and perform their favorite musical numbers and dance routines they'd seen Paula Abdul do on television. Her parents knew the moment they saw her in the second grade production of a Teddy Bears Picnic that they had their hands full. She was born with that twinkle in her eye, and it only grew bigger.

She graduated high school at sixteen and decided to attend college while still pursuing her dreams of Hollywood. She got her Associates degree in English from Allan Hancock College and was then offered a scholarship to study Shakespeare and British Literature in London. In London, she was given the opportunity to perform in such productions as Hamlet and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

After returning home from her time abroad, she was even more dedicated to her craft and began saving up for her move to LA. Having been in LA for a few years now, she has experienced the joys as well as the many heartbreaks of the business, but she is still as determined and as focused as ever."

Today Elizabeth Fields, author of How I Spent My Summer Vacation, stops by Call Me Crazy to dish on her favorite summer memories (she was in a Jon Bon Jovi video!) and her must-have snacks for the ultimate road trip!

 1. If you were able to follow any band around on tour like L and Leah did, which band would you choose?
If you had asked this question when I was L and Leah's age, the answer would definitely have been Limp Bizkit. Now... I think the 18 year old in me would still like to make that happen.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation2. What is your favorite Summer memory from growing up?
My favorite memories are the ones I created with my childhood best friend, Leanna. She and I had the best summertime adventures. One summer, just before sophomore year, we were both cast for a Jon Bon Jovi music video. Now that was fun.

3. Besides Brick Party Sundae, what other band(s) do you think would have been on L and Leah's 'Best Summer Ever' playlist?
I'm pretty sure if we checked their iPods, we'd see bands like 30 Seconds to Mars, Atlas Genius, Tegan and Sara, and Muse.

4. What are your must-have junk food items for a road trip?
When it comes to snacking, I'm more of a salty than sweet kind of girl. When I prepare for a road trip, my junk food care pack has to include Pringles, jerky, and usually Cheez-It crackers. I do love a good Cheez-It!

5. Are there any new writing projects you've been working on that we should keep an eye out for?
I actually have a couple more adventures in store for L. I've enjoyed watching her grow and keep growing. I think readers who enjoyed following L on her journey around Texas will be happy to see where life takes her next.
