In this final installment of the thrilling, edgy Personal Demons series, the battle between Heaven and Hell has become critical, and Frannie Cavanaugh is right at the center of it.

With the help of the powerful angel Gabe and demon-turned-mortal Luc, Frannie has been able to stay one step ahead of the forces of Hell. But when the demons killed Frannie's best friend and destroyed her brother, they raised the stakes. If Frannie wants to keep her family and friends safe, she knows she has no choice but to go on the run.
Their best defense is the power Frannie has been struggling to master, but her attempts to hone her skill go horribly awry. If Frannie doesn't learn fast, the consequences could be devastating--even apocalyptic.
What happens when you can't outrun Hell...or trust the ones you love?

As soon as I finished book two, Original Sin, I knew the wait for Last Rite, was going to be complete torture! I was fortunate enough to receive an advance reader's copy from the author which I immediately dug into almost the day it got here. I'm totally bummed that this awesome trilogy is over, but I honestly wouldn't have wanted it to end any other way.

I absolutely love the main characters in this book and how Lisa Desrochers flawlessly wrote in three different point of views. Just like in the prior books, I never was confused with there being more than one point of view, each character had an incredibly distinct voice that made me fall in love with them.

One amazingly awesome new edition to Last Rite was Gabe's point of view! When Lisa put up a picture on her blog of the drafts for this book and I saw 'Gabe' as a heading for a chapter I freaked out! I know I'm all 'Team Luc' but Gabe is really perfect and easy to love too! I really enjoyed getting in his head and understanding just how much he loves Frannie and the lengths he'll go to to keep her safe. Like all the other characters in the book, he has an amazing sense of humor which I really enjoyed!

The battle between Heaven and Hell reaches in peak in this book and it is crazy intense! I was literally on the edge of my seat reading waiting to see what crazy thing was going to happen next! We also get to see Frannie learn more about her special gifts and get some sweet scenes with her adorable Grandfather. There was one scene towards the end of the book, I don't want to give anything away, but it really made me look at my thoughts on God in a different, better way, than I have been. It was a really refreshing and spiritual take, and just the thing I needed.

This book was full of surprises and so much suspense! I really couldn't put it down once I started it, which was bittersweet for me because I really didn't want it to end! All of the lose ends from the previous books were tied up very neatly and I really enjoyed where all of the characters' stories ended up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really going to miss the oh so swoon worthy Luc and Gabe, but I think I'll miss Frannie the most (which says a lot because those guys are total babes!) Frannie and I were the same age while I was reading the books so it really felt like I was growing up with her and that she was a dear friend to me. Other than going to college, I've never had a friend move away, but I think the end of this trilogy will be like that. I can always go back on the memories we had by rereading the books and I know that Frannie is happy, which makes me smile.

Overall: 5/5

I was beyond disappointed that this series was coming to an end, but after I read the final page I was really at peace with where the characters were headed. I loved how Lisa gave us a glimpse into their future so we know what it holds for all of the surviving characters. The final installment in the Personal Demons trilogy was intense, heartwarming and everything I could have possibly asked for. I'm really grateful that I was able to go on this adventure with Frannie and can't wait to reread these books in the future.

  1. Amazing review Katie :) !!
I read Personal Demons when it came out and loved it but for some reason I didn't buy a copy of Original Sin .. I really have to continue this series !! Finishing the las book of a series I love is always hard but if I'm satisfied with the ending it's always way more easier .. It actually reminds me of the way I felt when I finished reading Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead last year : I was sad but I was also at peace with how it ended :) !!
    Anyway, great review darling !!

  2. I haven't heard of this trilogy before, but it sounds really fun! I adore characters I feel like I've grown up with. It definitely helps relating to them and building a connection.

  3. I haven't heard of this trilogy before, but I think it sounds really interesting! I'm glad that the ending gave closure to the series (I really hate it when final books don't do that) and I think I should check this out! Great review :)
