Question from Lesley at The Keeper Shelf

Do you judge a book by its cover?

I used to a lot until I came across one of my absolute favorite books that happened to have a pretty horrible cover. I received it for review, read it and just fell head over heels in love with it! If I had seen the book on a shelf I would have immediately passed over it. So pretty much ever since then, no matter what the cover looks like, I try to make my decisions based the summary or reviews I've read.

  1. Nice answer and so true. There are many great books out there that the covers don't amount to anything but the actual book itself is amazing.

  2. The cover always draws me in first, but the description has to sell me. I can take forever to try a book out with a cover I didn't care for. I'm already a follower. My FF is at Coffee Table Reviews

  3. I've had a few books with bad covers that turned out great. I'm lured by the pretty but I won't read a book just because of a cover anymore.

  5. I'm dying to know what book it was! There are definitely some great books out there with blah covers - especially ARC's. I've seen some awful covers on those things. A pretty cover will make me pick up a book for sure, but if it has bad buzz or reviews I won't just read it because it's pretty.

  6. Hi! I'm Izzy, and I'm just stopping by on the FF train! I agree with you - sometimes the cover is only okay or maybe or even completely unappealing, but then the story turns out to be awesome, and on the reverse side, books can have gorgeous covers and then horrible stories. I try not to judge by the cover, but more often than not, I find myself doing exactly that.

  8. I am with you. Cover never guarantee the story inside. It's just about a taste

  9. Such a splendid answer. Sometimes you get those the ugly duckling that turns into the swan, bonus it lays golden eggs!

I think we all judge a book, whether we want to or not. As long as there are words to paint a new world for me I'm happy.

Please Stop by, I'm starting a new with a fresh look.  Let me know what you think.

  11. I know what you mean! Some of my favourite books have really bleh covers. Pretty covers are good for initial attraction but blogger reviews usually help me decide if I want to read a book or not.
