Review: Wake Unto Me by Lisa Cach

ARC from Speak
Published March 31, 2011

A haunted castle, a handsome young man dead for four hundred years, one heck of a scary portrait of a witch, and a treasure hunt -- not to mention a princess for a roommate! -- all await 15 year old American girl Caitlyn Monahan when she earns a scholarship to a French boarding school.
There are secrets behind the stone walls of Chateau de la Fortune, buried for centuries along with the mystery of who killed Raphael, the charming ghost who visits Caitlyn at night. But as Caitlyn unearths the history of the castle, nothing scares her as badly as the secret she learns about herself, and the reason she was chosen to come to the Fortune School.
And nothing breaks her heart as badly as falling in love with a dead guy.

As soon as I read the summary for Wake Unto Me on goodreads I immediately knew that I needed to read this book! I loved the idea of only finding love in your dreams and how the main character would be in a boarding school in France. I set high expectations and thankfully they were greatly surpassed.

The entire plot is pure genius. I loved all the twists that added depth to the story. One of my favorite parts is the mystery aspect of the book. Lisa Cach's descriptions are flawless. I felt like I was off in France living in an ancient castle with Caitlin. I adored how there was actual history mixed in with paranormal events, I wish school's history books could be this amazing!

The main character, Caitlin, is extremely likable and realistic. She's an average student who was bullied at school. Even though her life isn't all that great, this doesn't stop her from being a determined and hopeful person, which I loved.

Raphael... Yum! He was just the perfect leading male character for this book. He was mysterious, brave and caring which was everything that Caitlin needed. I loved that he had a sense of humor and was a little bit on the dangerous side, this definitely helped the amazing romance between the two characters.

I completely adored Caitlin's classmates in France! They were truly unique and each brought something different to the story. The girls were so patient with putting up with Caitlin's sometimes odd behavior and always stuck by her side. After reading Wake Unto Me I definitely want a friend like Naomi!

My favorite part of this book is the ending, it was just absolutely mind blowing! I never saw it coming! I love the twist Lisa Cach added to the story and how it kept you guessing until the literal end. It wraps up the story and leaves you wanting more!

Amazing Quote:
"I must awake to what is happening. I am at the edge of the abyss."

Characters: 5/5
Creativity: 5/5
Voice: 5/5
Plot: 5/5
Impact: 4.5/5
Overall: 5/5

I definitely recommend that you pick up Wake Unto Me as soon as it comes out on March 31st! But beware, once you pick it up you won't be able to set it down until the end. This book is filled with romance, mystery and even some history thrown in, it's amazing.
