18th Birthday Extravaganza: Guest Post by Frannie from Lisa Desrochers' Personal Demons!

It's Day 9 of our 18th Birthday Extravaganza and today the totally awesome Frannie from Lisa Desrochers' Personal Demons joins us! Just like Lauren and myself, Frannie will be turning eighteen soon so don't forget to wish her a Happy Birthday!

A birthday note to Katie and Lauren from Frannie

Okay, so, here’s the deal. I have two older sisters. They got boobs first, they got boyfriends first (because of the boobs, no doubt), and they got their licenses first. It was supremely unfair that they had all those things before me, and all I wanted was to be older. But, now that I’m about to turn eighteen, I’m thinking all that growing up wasn’t really that bad after all. Don’t get me wrong. I’m super excited to turn eighteen this summer and go away to college and all that, especially if Luc and Gabe are coming with me, but I’m thinking eighteen might be a good place to stop. (I’ll have see if there’s anything Gabe can do about that. ;p)

So, Katie and Lauren, I’m not sure how you guys are feeling about the whole eighteen thing. Before, whenever my dad told me to act my age, I’d remind him that I was, in fact, acting my age. I’m thinking we’re not going to be able to use that excuse for too much longer. There are some seriously scary parts about turning eighteen and heading out on our own, like being responsible for hauling our own sorry butts out of bed every morning for eight o’clock classes, not having a handy parental unit when we’re out of money, remembering to take out the trash, and having to learn to do laundry. (You guys probably already know how to do that, don’t you?) But there are also some seriously cool things: meeting new people, getting to eat ice cream and Skittles for dinner, and staying out late on a school night. It’s really all about making our own decisions, and the thing I’ve learned recently, through a series of events that I never saw coming, is that decisions have consequences. So, I think the key is just being smart about them.

So, happy eighteenth birthday, you guys! I think eighteen will be fun. Don’t you?

I think you're right, eighteen will be absolutely great!
Thank you so much Frannie and Happy Birthday!!

  1. I-I actually don't know how to take out the trash. *hangs head* I need to get some muscles on me! Lol.

But you've got such a great point, Frannie! Growing up is certainly going to be interesting. :)

Happy birthday, Frannie! You're so lucky to be able to take Luc and Gabe to college with you!

  2. I don't think 18 was that big of a change for me. I was already basically on my own, working, and in college. Boy how I miss being young.
