Question from Rabid Reads

What did you study in college, or are currently studying and did it lead to your current 9 to 5 or are you doing something totally different?

Well since I'm only seventeen and am still a senior in high school I haven't been to college yet. However, I plan to major in English and Web Design. Then after the first four years I'm going back to get a masters in library science.

"What do you consider the most important in a story: the plot or the characters?"

I'm going to have to go with characters. For me one of the best parts of reading is meeting new people. The characters that are created by authors are seriously amazing. I love getting to know their quirky personalities and just in general becoming friends throughout the course of a story. When I look back on my favorite books I think about how courageous and hilarious the characters were a lot more than how much I liked the plot. I admire so many characters that they definitely come first in any book.

  1. I agree getting to know the characters in a book is extremely important. It is like getting to have new friends ... or sometimes new enemies (if the character is a bad guy :P )

  2. Yeah, I agree with you about the whole character thing. If I have no connection with the character, then the books kind of dead. Good characterisation is key :)
    Have a great weekend!

  3. Old follower just dropping by to say hi. :) I think characters make a book, too- I agree with what Dragonfly said, except that sometimes I find myself liking the bad guy(s), too. :) I mean, where would a book be without a baddie or two? Anyway, I hope you have a great weekend.

  5. Hopping through. I really like your blog, and so, I am your newest follower.
And I totally agree on the characters front. Plot, schmot, if the character's boring.

  11. Hi Katie, I'm not sure how I found you, prolly the blog hop. Anyway, I love your kinda crazy and love that you're still in high school and love books. good luck! if i may offer a bit of advice, I graduated a couple years ago with a degree in masters of library science. i would DEFINITELY suggest the web design major as an undergrad. English is nice (i did that) but if you're a good reader and a good writer, you dont need it. librarians today are all about the web and computers and stuff.

  12. Hi Pam! I'm so glad to hear that librarians are using the computer a lot more! I'll get to combine my two loves into one! Thank you so much for the advice, it'll definitely go into consideration while picking my classes! :)
