When I first heard of Nightshade I thought it was going to be an ordinary paranormal romance, just like all the rest, so I put it off my radar. Than the awesome marketing campaign started. The calla lilies that were being sent to bloggers to announce Shay's Shadow Days youtube videos. Seriously how cool is that?! Then Andrea wrote a short story from Shay's point of view for amazon. I had to check this book out considering all the buzz!
I'm so thrilled I did! I love, love, love this book! Calla is definitely my all time favorite lead female. She's easy to relate to with her struggles of who she is and what path to choose. I found it extremely easy to put myself in her shoes. Oh and of course, Calla is a powerhouse! She's totally fierce and kicks major butt!
The guys... Well they are amazing! Andrea has both the dark mysterious boy and the sweet, loyal one. Ren's character is perfect. He has so many layers it's incredible. Shay is the polar opposite of Ren. He's more fun loving and care free. These characters bring so much depth to Nightshade.
There is two wolf packs in the story. Ren's and Calla's, who must unite together as one. Slowly they begin to spend more time together and it's just completely entertaining! Each pack mate brings a unique personality to the table that compliments the others so well! All the characters are hilarious. This definitely made me want a pack of my very own!
I had no trouble whatsoever getting into this book. Andrea Cremer put you smack in the middle of everything so there was never a dull moment. We are shown Calla's world from sentence one and I loved it.
The ending was perfect for a sequel. I really enjoyed how it ended and left questions (lots!) open for the following two books. I'm so bummed we have to wait until July to find out what happens!
Awesome Quote:
The floorboards squeaked as Ansel passed by my door again. I caught his nervous glance in my direction before he hurried down the hall.
"Ansel, I'm not the sun. Stop orbiting and get in here."

ReplyDeleteShay's a cutie! I still don't know which team I'm on! To the Andrea Cremer signing I wore a Team Shay shirt (dork) but I have the Team Ren button because I liked the wolf on it lol
I think I'll be Team Calla for a while :)
Nice review Katie! I really enjoyed this one as well, and I completely agree with you on Calla, I found her refreshing. Both Ren and Shay had attractive qualities, and though I lean more toward Ren, it should be fun to watch how things play out with the three of them:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny! I'm glad you liked Calla too! Refreshing is *the* perfect word to describe her. It is going to be definitely fun to watch things play out! :)
